The uvula (frenulum) is the thin tissue that connects the lip or tongue to the gum. If it is too short or tight, it can cause a gap between the teeth, pulling of the gum, speech impediments or restricted tongue movement. Frenectomy is performed quickly, gently and painlessly – most often in childhood, but also in adult patients.
If it pulls the gum, separates the teeth, restricts speech or hinders hygiene - then it is ideal to have the bridle surgically removed or adjusted.
The procedure takes only a few minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia. There is no need for stitches or long recovery after the procedure.
In children, a tight bridle can restrict pronunciation, make breastfeeding or swallowing difficult. A fenulectomy is a safe and preventive solution.
The procedure will improve tongue range of motion, relieve tension in the mouth and prevent further gum retraction or growth asymmetry.
Frenulectomy solves both functional and aesthetic problems caused by a short or tight bridle. The procedure is quick, painless and with excellent results.
